Taking home the gold: Mercedes win the World Car of the Year Awards

World Luxury Car of the Year

Here at Big Motoring World, we’ve always known just how amazing Mercedes’ cars are. As such, it didn’t surprise us to find out that they’ve taken the 2015 World Car of the Year Awards by storm. The innovative manufacturer walked away with three awards, including overall World Car of the Year. That’s pretty impressive, even for a manufacturer of Mercedes’ legendary prowess.

What are the World Car of the Year Awards?

Held in New York, the World Car of the Year Awards are one of the motoring world’s most prestigious events. Cars are judged by a panel of jurors comprised of automotive authorities from around the world. These jurors select the best cars in multiple different categories, including the overall best vehicle, which earns the sought-after title of ‘World Car of the Year’.

Victory for Mercedes

The Mercedes C-Class was this year’s overall winner, but two other cars from Mercedes also won awards. The S-Class Coupe drove was awarded the appropriately lavish title of ‘World Luxury Car of the Year’ while the AMG GT was named ‘World Performance Car of the Year’.

Responding the C-Class’s victory, Mercedes’ Chairman Dr Dieter Zetsche said that the vehicle “embodies what we understand modern automotive luxury made by Mercedes-Benz to be”. He explained that “the C-Class has always been a trendsetter in the premium medium-size category” and that he believed the latest model “has all the prerequisites to be a huge success”. It seems that the jurors for the World Car of the Year Awards agree with him! Zetsche concluded by saying that both he and Mercedes as a whole were “extremely delighted” to have won the illustrious award.

Honourable Mentions

Mercedes’ triple win might be the most headline-grabbing news from the World Car Awards, but BMW also warrant a mention! The BMW i8 nabbed the award for ‘World Green Car of the Year’ thereby affirming the manufacturer’s potential for long-term success in the cutting-edge world of eco-friendly automobile design.

With both Mercedes and BMW winning prizes at this year’s World Car Awards, we can expect to see renewed competition between the two manufacturers. Here at Big Motoring World, we can’t wait to see what new innovations their sparring will produce!
