Recently visitors to Goodwood Motor Circuit would have been transported back to the halcyon age of the 1940s, 50s & and 60s for Goodwood Estates annual Revival meeting. Taking place in the heart of the South Downs every year, the Goodwood Revival meeting is designed to honour and celebrate Goodwood’s post-second world war era motorsport activities. Attracting big-name drivers and cars from the world of motorsport, the Revival is a motorsport event unlike any other.
Traditionally falling into the late summer slot on the calendar just a couple of months after Goodwoods other highly acclaimed event, the Festival of Speed, the Revival meeting is more than just a celebration of cars.
It’s a cultural festival that celebrates everything from a golden age. With period vehicles, and vintage clothing taking centre stage the event is a truly immersive experience which thrills and delights the attending crowds year upon year.
Whether it is roaming the faithfully reproduced period high street, getting your hair done at Betty’s hairdressers or buying a new tweed cap you can watch the racing in, the Revival experience cannot be beaten.
Every year the event also celebrates iconic moments in history and this year the culturally iconic film The Italian Job was celebrated over at the Earls Court Motor Show which is faithfully reproduced in the heart of the Goodwood circuit. With actors and actresses replicating iconic scenes from the film, it was a fantastic perspective from which to celebrate the films 50th Birthday.
Elsewhere across the Revival site, you had the opportunity to roam the many paddocks and take in some of the finest racing machines ever assembled. Whether it was multi-million pounds worth of Ferrari 250 GTO, classic Formula One machinery or the Le Mans 24 Hour legend that is the Ford GT40, the Revival had strong representation from all of the major motorsport categories of the era.
Whilst looking at these fine machines is a genuine pleasure in itself, what is more thrilling is the fact that these cars actually see racing action. Going wheel to wheel for all-out Goodwood Revival honours, it is a real testament to the cars owners for allowing them to be raced this hard in front of appreciative fans.
Once your fix of track action is over, it’s just a short step to ‘Over The Road’ where you’ll discover a vintage themed funfair and entertainment that can be enjoyed until late in the evening. A perfect way to unwind after a long day of motorsport action.
